Privacy Policy
How KhmerDate collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information.
Effective: 27 May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how KhmerDate (“KhmerDate”, “we”, “us”) handles your personal information when you use khmerdate.com or any of our mobile applications (together, the “Service”).
Because KhmerDate is a dating platform, some of the information you share with us is sensitive — photos, intimate preferences, and private messages with other members. We treat that information with the care it deserves and explain below exactly what happens with it. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.
1. Who we are
KhmerDate is operated by KhmerDate Co., Ltd., registered in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Our contact details are in section 14. For any privacy question you can reach us at privacy@khmerdate.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account information — email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), date of birth, gender, and the type of relationship you are looking for.
- Profile information — display name, photos, bio, languages, occupation, education, height, weight, country of origin, country of residence, city, and interests.
- Verification information — in some cases we may ask for a short selfie video to confirm a profile is genuine.
- Payment information — if you buy a paid subscription, our payment processor handles your card details; we keep only a token and the transaction history, never your full card number.
- Communications — messages you send to other members and to our support team.
- Preferences and behavior — your search filters, who you have liked, blocked or favorited, and your notification preferences.
Information we collect automatically:
- Device and connection data — IP address, device type, operating system, browser, language settings, time zone, and crash logs.
- Usage data — pages you visit, features you use, and approximate time spent on each.
- Approximate location — derived from your IP address, used to show nearby members and to comply with regional laws. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates unless you explicitly enable that on a mobile app.
Information we receive from third parties:
- Social login providers (Google, Facebook) if you choose to sign in with them — limited to your name, email, and profile picture.
- Fraud-prevention services that help us detect spam, scams, and abusive behavior.
3. How we use your information
- Provide the Service — create and maintain your account, show your profile to other members, deliver messages, run searches.
- Match you with compatible members based on the preferences and behavior you share with us.
- Keep the platform safe — detect fake profiles, scams, harassment, and prohibited content. We may review reported messages and profiles.
- Communicate with you — send transactional emails, notify you of activity on your account, respond to support requests.
- Improve and personalize the Service — analytics about how members use the site, A/B testing of new features, performance monitoring.
- Process payments if you subscribe to a paid plan, including billing and refunds where applicable.
- Comply with the law — respond to lawful requests from authorities, enforce our Terms of Service, defend against legal claims.
4. Legal bases for processing (EEA / UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a country with similar laws, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR and equivalent legislation:
- Performance of a contract — most processing needed to deliver the Service to you.
- Your consent — for sensitive data such as sexual orientation, precise location, and marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interest — for analytics, fraud prevention, and improving the Service, always weighed against your privacy rights.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
5. How we share your information
- With other members — your profile, photos, age, gender, city, bio, and other details you choose to display are visible to other members. Messages you send are visible to their recipient. We never share your email address, full date of birth, or precise location with other members.
- With service providers — hosting (Supabase, Vercel), email delivery, payment processors, fraud-prevention vendors, and analytics providers. These companies are contractually required to use your data only on our behalf and to protect it.
- For safety and legal reasons — we may disclose information to law enforcement, regulators, or other authorities when required by law, when we have a good-faith belief it is necessary to prevent harm, or to enforce our Terms of Service.
- In a corporate transaction — if KhmerDate is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the new entity. We will give you notice in advance.
We never sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
6. International transfers
Our servers are currently located in Singapore (Asia-Pacific) with backups in the European Union. If you use the Service from outside these regions, your information will be transferred to and processed in those locations. Where required by law, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and other safeguards approved by the European Commission.
7. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Profile data, photos, and preferences are permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Messages you sent remain visible to the recipient but are no longer linked to your account.
- We may retain some information longer to comply with legal obligations (e.g., transaction records), to resolve disputes, or to prevent fraud and abuse (e.g., records of banned users).
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have one or more of the following rights:
- Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Restriction or objection — ask us to limit or stop certain processing.
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdrawal of consent — for any processing that relies on consent.
- Lodge a complaint — with your local data-protection authority.
You can exercise most of these rights directly from Account → Privacy on KhmerDate. For anything else, email privacy@khmerdate.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep you logged in (essential).
- Remember your preferences and language (essential).
- Analyze how the site is used so we can improve it (optional — you can disable this in your cookie settings).
- Prevent fraud and abuse (essential).
You can manage your cookie preferences from your browser settings or via the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
10. Children
KhmerDate is strictly for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please report it to safety@khmerdate.com and we will remove it immediately.
11. Security
We use encryption in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher) and at rest for sensitive data, strict access controls, regular security reviews, and a responsible-disclosure programme for security researchers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information. If you discover a vulnerability, please email security@khmerdate.com.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and through an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The “Effective” date at the top of this page tells you when this version was published.
13. Region-specific notices
If you are a resident of California, you have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know which categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of any “sale” of personal information (we do not sell personal information). To exercise these rights, email privacy@khmerdate.com.
If you are a resident of Cambodia, your information is processed in accordance with the Law on the Protection of Personal Information and other applicable local laws.
